The profound results of a positive influence.

When you mentor a young person, you have a real impact on the future of that child and the community.  And all it takes is a few hours a month.

An independent study conducted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America facilitated by Public/Private Ventures, a national research firm based in Philadelphia, PA, shows the success of our program. Comparing children who had yet to be matched with a mentor with children who already had a Big Brother or Big Sister, the study found the mentored children to be:

• 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
• 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
• 52% less likely to skip school
• 37% less likely to skip a class
• 33% less likely to hit someone
• More confident in their performance in schoolwork
• In better relationships with their families

Every child needs someone to look up to.  Through Big Brother Big Sisters Summit and Medina County you have the opportunity to offer professionally supported guidance and companionship to children ages 7-15, primarily from single-parent homes, who are seeking a mentor relationship.

Becoming a Big is easy!   First, contact the office of Summit and Medina Big Brothers Big Sisters to schedule a one-hour orientation and receive an application.  After that, you’ll be asked to:

  • provide references
  • participate in an in-person interview
  • go through a background check (provided by the agency)

Volunteer Orientation Schedule

We offer monthly group orientations at our Summit County office, and schedule group orientations for the Medina area as needed.  Individual orientations are also an option if group training dates don’t fit your schedule!

  • November 17 (Sat.)
  • December 10 (Mon.)

All Saturday orientations are at 10 a.m. and Mondays are at 6 p.m.
